As we prepare for the busy run up to Christmas, we thought it would be a good time to share what we have been getting up to in class since coming back from half term!

P.E.

In P.E., the children have been really enjoying some country dancing! We have been learning and practising some basic country dance moves and worked with our partners – and as a whole class – to create a dance routine for our Christmas performance. We are really looking forward to sharing this with you at the end of the term!

Maths

In maths, we have been busy learning all about subtraction. We have been practising using number lines, tens frames and Dienes to support us with some subtraction problems. Last week, the children enjoyed challenging themselves with some column subtracting involving renaming. We will be consolidating our learning on this over the next couple of weeks.

Science

In science, we have been learning all about different materials and their properties. The children enjoyed sorting manmade and natural materials and using these to create their own natural collages of Rosie Revere, the main character in our current literacy text. We also enjoyed choosing which materials we thought would be best suited to making our own bridges,

Literacy

In literacy, we’ve enjoyed learning about the importance of a growth mindset and resilience in our text Rosie Revere, Engineer. Last week, Rosie sent us some instructions on how to build hoop gliders. The children really loved making these and then created their own set of instructions afterwards!

Topic

In Topic, we have been learning all about the Victorians and how health began to improve during the Victorian times. We have learnt all about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and why they were such important women all those years ago. We also learnt about how the Victorians used to make their own herbal medicines. The children loved going out to our herb garden and picking herbs to make their own herbal medicines!

I am so proud of the children and how hard they have worked since the holidays and we really can’t wait to share our Christmas performance with you shortly!
