Welcome back Grayling 2 – I hope that everyone was able to switch off and enjoy their Christmas holidays!

We’ve had a lovely first week of 2024 and the children have, as always, thrown themselves into their learning!

On Wednesday, we were very excited to find five sets of mysterious animal footprints across the school! The children were able to identify four of the five sets of footprints but there’s one that has left us puzzled… Over the course of the week, Grayling 2 have been writing descriptions of what they think this mystery animal might look like and have created their own brilliant Missing Animal posters which we’ve displayed across the school.

Fingers crossed that somebody will be able to give us some more information about this animal next week!

In maths, we’ve been focussing on 2D shape and pattern, rotation and translation. The children have been learning terms such as clockwise, anti-clockwise, left and right. Next week, we’ll be moving onto multiplication, starting with our 10 times tables.

In music, we have finished our learning on the Carnival of Animals. The children have really enjoyed listening to different pieces of music and, this week, they worked together in groups to create a piece of music using instruments to represent an animal of their choice. We enjoyed sharing our music with the class and guessing which animal the music represented.

In science, we finished off our learning about materials. The children had a brilliant time making their own catapults out of wood and elastic and deciding why these materials were suitable choices for a catapult. They then made predictions as to whether they would be able to catapult a rubber, cotton wool or a plastic lego brick the furthest and enjoyed testing their predictions out!

I’m looking forward to a brilliant Spring term and to seeing you all next week. Happy weekend!
